Geraldine Purcell Williams
My training, qualifications and experience.
Prior to my training as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I spent many years working in a hospital setting as a Senior Sister and Administrator. This background has provided me with a wealth of experience, knowledge, and skills which combined with my counselling/psychotherapy training, have been a great asset in my present work with clients.
I began my training as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist in 1990 and completed my Diploma in 1994. During this time I was also working part time as a volunteer counsellor at a branch of Turning Point in Ealing. I finally left the hospital setting after almost 25yrs, and in 1995 set up in Independent Practice with my husband Tony Williams.
My background training as a Counsellor /Psychotherapist was person centred and influenced by Carl Rogers. This approach to counselling emphasises the counsellor as facilitator to the client rather than being the expert and where collaboration is often key to a positive outcome.
I have also been influenced by Alfred Adler, the Austrian physician and psychologist, has also been a great influence in my work with clients. I believe that Adler’s theories regarding Belonging, Early Recollections, Family Constellation, and Social Interest, are most pertinent in addressing to-days social ills.
I have gone on to train in other areas of interest, notably a Diploma in Brief Strategic Therapy in 2003 which included training in E.M.D.R. for anxiety disorders.
Other areas of training and interest have been;
- Adlerian Early Recollections and Dream Interpretation.
- Breast Cancer
- Brief Therapy
- Dealing with Difficult Behaviour
- Life Coaching
- Lifting Low Self Esteem
- Parkinsons Disease
- Stress and The Body
I spent many years (1999 -2006 ) working part time for the well known charity, Breast Cancer Care. I have facililitated workshops for Age Concernon Death and Dying and Dealing with The Elderly. More recently I was involved with giving workshops for The Parkinson’s Society for, Younger People and Parkinson’s.
